Alright, enough about running and RunDisney, here is a completely different form of athleticism at Disney.  This is in the form of performances, not guests having to do anything physical 🙂  Today I’d like to share with you a video from the Disney Parks Blog about the “tumble monkeys”!  If you’ve ever been to the Animal Kingdom, you know that “The Festival of the Lion King” is one of their most popular shows!  It’s full of energy, excitement and music.  This spectacular is great for all ages!  I took my Godson to see it when he was 18 months old and he LOVED the monkeys!  As and adult I even love the show and make it a point to see it every time I visit the Animal Kingdom!  It’s hard not to leave the show full of energy and whistling Hakuna Matata!  Enjoy this video featuring the “tumble monkeys”

Tuesday’s Tip- Register for the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Today!

Good Morning Mouskaholics!

Today registration for the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon- “The Happiest Race on Earth” opens today at 12pm EST.

I speak from personal experience when I say this is an amazing race!  I ran the race in 2012 as part of the Coast to Coast challenge, and it was not only my first trip to Disneyland, but also my first time in California!  If you’ve never been to Disneyland, it is such a neat experience to walk where Walt Disney walked 🙂

The Disneyland race is different from the Disney World races in that in Disneyland you only spend about 3 miles actually on Disney property, and the rest of the race is through the city of Anaheim.  Disney World races are entirely on Disney property because of the vast amounts of land owned in Florida.

With that being said there are opportunities for some neat non-Disney experiences in the Disneyland race, like running through the Anaheim Angels Stadium!

In addition to the Disneyland 1/2 marathon, you can also register for the Disneyland 10k, or 5k.  If you’re up for an even bigger challenge register for the Dumbo Double Dare where you run the 10k on Saturday and the 1/2 Marathon on Sunday.

The Disneyland 1/2 Marathon weekend will kick off on Friday September 4th with the 5k, and continue on Saturday with the 10k and Sunday with the 1/2 marathon.  This is all held on Labor Day weekend which can make getting off work a little less complicated for these events!  To register visit http://www.rundisney.com around noon today!

Words of Walt- The Park

Today is a magical day for me, because I’m leaving for Disney after work today!!!  This coming weekend I will be running the Disney World 1/2 marathon!  Today’s “Words of Walt” quote is from the opening day at Disneyland and articulates BEAUTIFULLY why I love Disney, and why if I’m going to run 13.1 miles I choose to do it at Disney!

“To all who come to this happy place: Welcome.  Disneyland is your land.  Here, age relives fond memories of the past… and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future.  Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America… with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.”

Register today for the Expedition Everest Challenge 5k

I’ve written In the past about how I LOVE to participate in RunDisney events because these events combine two of my favorite things- running and Disney!!!!  With that being said, today is an exciting day because registration will officially open for the Expedition Everest 5k Challenge. The event will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015.  This event is an incredibly unique RunDisney event for several reasons.

1) This is the only RunDisney event that is a stand alone 5k.  There are many 5ks held throughout the year on Disney properties, but this event is centered around the 5k rather than a larger event.

2) This event is a night time race.  There are only a few other select RunDisney events that are held at night

3)  This 5k is also a “challenge event” and includes a few obstacles such as a hay bail jump, tires, and a crawling net.

4) There is a scavenger hunt to complete after you run the 5k.  You will be timed separately but the scavenger hunt is part of the “Challenge”

5) This event is held solely on the grounds of the Animal Kingdom park.

6) There is a MASSIVE after party for the participants and select rides are open during the party!

While I’ve never had the opportunity to run this event I interviewed Michael and Tiffiny Wyscarver who participated in the event as a team in 2014.  Tiffiny described the event as “Fun, fun, and more fun!”  and Michael loved that it was “running through the Animal Kingdom park, obstacles, and a scavenger hunt combined.”

2015 will be the final year that RunDisney offers the Expedition Everest Challenge (which was a disappointment to Michael and Tiffiny).  So make sure that if you’re interested in this race that you register quickly!  Spaces will more than likely fill quickly because of it being the final year!

Ten Reasons to RunDisney

Alright, I am currently training for the Goofy Challenge!  When I complete that full marathon it will be my third full marathon at Walt Disney World!!!  I’ve only run one full marathon off Disney property, and I assure that it was just not as fun!  I decided that it would be a good time to post my top ten reasons to RunDisney (I cannot take credit for all of these… I asked for some input from other Disney runners!)

10. Training for a race at Disney is a great motivator!  You can use imagery and imagine that you’re at Disney while you’re training.  I personally have LOTS of Disney music in my playlist!!!

9. After I run, my favorite thing to do is EAT!  If you run a race at Disney guess what, you get to eat at Disney!!!! (Think of the cupcakes!)

8.  You can run in costume without being judged!  It isn’t required that you run in costume, but MANY people choose to run in costumes… because, why not?

7. Just like everything that Disney does, their races are WORLD CLASS events!  The expo, the course, the entertainment, the water stations- everything is so well organized.

6. There are races for all distances!  You can run as little as a 5k at Disney, and all the way up to a full marathon!

5. If you’re a little Goofy, or Dopey even you can run multiple races!  Goofy Challenge is a 1/2 marathon and a full marathon on two consecutive days.  Dopey Challenge is a 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon, and full marathon over four consecutive days.  There are other special challenges- Dumbo Double Dare, Glass Slipper Challenge, and the Coast to Coast challenge! (Yes there are races both in Florida and California!)

4. If you’re going to run a crazy distance (you know… 13.1 or 26.2 miles) why wouldn’t you want to do it at the happiest place on earth!

3. The BLING is outstanding.  The medals that you get from running a Disney race are simply spectacular!

2. You can get your pictures taken with characters along the way!  Plus the lines move much quicker than they do at the parks! You can hand your camera off to a cast member, and they will take your picture for you!  They know that you wanna get your picture and get back on the move!

1. If you’ve ever been to Disney, it is an incredible NEW way to experience Disney!  You’ll see backstage areas that you’ve never seen, and you will never look at the parks the same way!

The Power of a Disney Song

Today’s post is a personal reflection.  I had no idea what I was going to write about this morning when I got up.  I was completely drawing a blank.  I have tons of future blog ideas, and I have blog ideas for when we are on our trip, and for when get back from our trip, and I even have tomorrow’s “Fridays’ Fun Fact” ready to post, yet nothing for today.

I am currently training for some races.  I am running my hometown’s half marathon in September, and then my long term goal in training is for the Goofy Challenge in January, which is a marathon and a half over two days.  And you’ll never guess where that race takes place (cough cough… wink wink… Disney World!).

When I set up my training playlists about 2 months ago I set it so that it would have a Disney song every third or fourth song so that it would remind me of what I was training for.  My mileage has been steadily increasing and today’s training calendar called for a 5 mile run.  I am not sure why but today as I set out on my run I was sore and sluggish.  In fact, at the halfway point, I stopped and stretched (which isn’t a bad thing, just not really a norm for me).  At 2.5 miles the thought crossed my mind- “Hey just run to 4 miles and then just walk the rest of the way to finish your 5.”  So after my stretch break, I took off running again fully intending to just run another 1.5 and then walk back home.  My mind changed when I hit 3.5 and it was because of a Disney song.  “Dig a Little Deeper” from the Princess and the Frog came up on my shuffled playlist.  Immediately as I thought about the lyrics of the song and the message of the movie I decided that there was no way that I would be walking that last mile.  I was going to dig a little deeper and finish what I had set out to do.

Hope you all have a wonderful day and accomplish your goals that you’ve set for yourself!
