Musical Monday- Beauty and the Beast Throwback

IMG_7102

Okay, the long awaited Live action version of Beauty and the Beast FINALLY hit the theaters this weekend (and broke some records doing so…largest opening for a PG rated movie ever)!  I haven’t seen it YET, but am definitely going soon.  Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favorite Disney movies from you childhood (in fact it made #7 on my top ten favorite animated Disney movie list)

So today’s Musical Monday shall honor the original movie.  In the movie, Mrs. Potts (voiced by Dame Angela Lansbury) sings the title track.  So below is the scene from the movie with Mrs. Potts performing the song.

Disney songs being recorded by pop artists is almost a “tale as old as time.”  The song “Beauty and the Beast” was recorded by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson for the radio and the end credits of the movie.  I’m sure that this song was played on the radio and annoyed my parents much like “Let it Go” annoyed me, but it is a classic, and one of my all time favorite Disney songs!

Musical Monday- “One Man Newsies”

So, I’ve been putting off posting my top ten live action Disney movies for a while because there are so many great movies.  One that is for sure in my top 10 is the musical “Newsies.”  I have always enjoyed the movie, and a few year ago my best friend took me to see the musical in Cleveland for my birthday, and it was terrific seeing it live!

The music for the 1992 movie was written by Alan Menken (He also wrote for The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Enchanted, and Tangled… can we say DISNEY LEGEND!!!).  The movie was adapted nearly 20 years later and released as a stage musical in 2011, and hit broadway in 2012.

The famous YouTuber, Nick Pitera, put together his own tribute to the amazing music from the Newsies.  His fame comes from not only his amazing vocal range, but his creative and unique videos in which he does ALL of the parts, yes even the female roles!  (He records multiple times with him singing different parts and then combines it for one amazing video!)  So without further ado, I give you- “One Man Newsies”

30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 22 “Favorite Live Action Movie”

Confessions of a Mouskaholic's 30 Day Disney Challenge

Confessions of a Mouskaholic’s 30 Day Disney Challenge

Alright, a few months ago I posted my “Top Ten Animated Disney Movies” post, and had every intention of following up with a “Top Ten Live Action Disney Movie”… In fact, I have the draft saved, I just never got around to finishing it up!  Perhaps I will get that done after the 30 day challenge and vacation are over!  So I guess today’s post will be a little bit of a spoiler as I officially declare my “Favorite Live Action Disney Movie.”

This truly is a difficult decision, and is part of the reason that I haven’t finished my Top 10 list!  But I’m going to have to go with “The Rocketeer” as my favorite live action.

My parents taped it off of the Disney channel for me and my brother when we were little (for younger readers, “taping” is something we did on VHS tapes with a VCR, before the days of DVR.)  I just feel in love with this movie.  It had the love story where the good guy gets the girl, and lots of Nazi fighting action!  It is a great story line with a wonderful cast.  If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend it!

The Rocketeer

Fun fact- If you ever visit the Sci-Fi Dine In theater at Hollywood Studios, be sure to look for the Rocketeer’s helmet as you enter from the lobby!
