30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 10 “Favorite Disney Dessert”

Confessions of a Mouskaholic's 30 Day Disney Challenge

Confessions of a Mouskaholic’s 30 Day Disney Challenge

I have gone to Disney with the Disney Dining Plan several times now, and so with each sit down meal I’ve had the chance to experience some pretty amazing desserts. But, I have 4 simple words in response to “What is your Favorite Disney Dessert”- Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake.  This amazing dessert can be found at the Liberty Tree Tavern at the Magic Kingdom.

Here is the description of this delight (from the Disney website)- Vanilla Cake with a Gooey Toffee Filling, Caramel Sauce, and Vanilla Ice Cream

And here is the picture of the dessert in all of it’s glory

Liberty Tree Tavern Review

liberty tree tavern liberty-tree-tavern-00

On our most recent trip one of our goals was to try all new restaurants.  While at the magic kingdom the new (to us) table service location that we decided to try was the “Liberty Tree Tavern.”  We made lunch reservations there and man did we luck out, because just as we were sitting down to lunch it started POURING, and by the time we were done eating the rain had stopped!

The atmosphere of the restaurant was perfectly themed, like any other disney restaurant I’ve been in.  It’s located in the Liberty Square area of the Magic Kingdom and has a colonial feel.  When you walk in you feel like you’re in an old timey tavern (minus the beer flowing because other than Be Our Guest Restaurant at dinner time, the MK is completely dry).

The prices at lunch range from $12.99 for the veggie burger to $19.99 for the freedom pasta.  Most items hover in the $15.99 range.  Because of the lower entree prices, Liberty Tree Tavern is not necessarily the best use of a table service dining credit if you’re on the Disney Dining Plan.  If all the members of your party get the pasta, or the pot roast, you’ll do a little bit better as far as value with the plan, Craig and I did not though.

At dinner, which we didn’t experience, the menu changes from an ala carte style to a family style meal.  The table will be served the following as part of their family style meal-

Patriot’s Platter
Roasted Turkey Breast, Carved Beef and Sliced Pork with Mashed Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables, Herb Bread Stuffing, and Macaroni & Cheese
I also believe this meal is all you can eat.
While the price for this experience is not listed on the website, I would guess it’s in the $30.00 per person range.  Most buffets at Disney are $37.99 per person.  I am not sure about the family style meals.
Even though I don’t think that lunch was the best use of a table service meal here, I do think that the restaurant is worth checking out!
I had the Colony Salad

featuring Ocean Spray® Craisins® BRAND with Washington Apples, Sweet Pecans, Applewood-smoked Cheddar, Craisins® Dried Cranberries and Grilled Chicken tossed with Field Greens in a Honey-Shallot Vinaigrette

and it was simply outstanding.

Craig had the Angus Chuck Cheeseburger

topped with your choice of Bacon and Cheddar or Mushrooms and Provolone served with fresh Fruit or Tavern Fries

He said it was one of the best burgers on Disney property.

Now my absolute favorite part of my meal at Liberty Tree Tavern was the dessert.  I ordered the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake, and I can honestly say, I have never enjoyed a dessert at Disney as much as I enjoyed this one.  It was absolutely fabulous.  With that being said, I have been on the hunt for a copy cat recipe, and I found one, so I’m sharing it with you today!

Thank you disney food blog for sharing this recipe, because this is one you’ll want to pin.

My overall review- The theming is wonderful, the food is wonderful and will not break the bank if you’re not on the disney dining plan.  If you’re on the disney dining plan and not worried about if the meal is the best use of a dining credit check it out at lunch time, if you’re trying to get the most bang for your buck, go at dinner time.  Overall it’s totally worth the time.  Your tastebuds will thank you

Park Day #2- The Magic Kingdom

Happy Thursday!!!  We are going to the  Magic Kingdom today 😀  While Epcot is definitely my favorite park, the Magic Kingdom is certainly the most magical!  I am looking forward to the magical moments 🙂

2011 Vacation

2011 Vacation

Today’s Plan

5:30- Wake up and run 3 miles (Even though I’m on vacation, I’m still training for a race… you’ll never guess where that race will be… cough cough Disney)

7:00- Split Quick Service Breakfast and Snack at resort food court

7:25- Depart for Magic Kingdom

8:00-9:00- Extra Magic Hour at MK

11:00- Fast Pass at Big Thunder Railroad

12:00- Fast Pass at Splash Mountain

1:00- Table Service Lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern

2:00- Fast Pass at 7 Dwarfs Mine Train

3:00- Either return to the resort for a nap, or find an air conditioned show to take a nap in.

6:00- Quick Service Dinner at Cosmic Rays Starlight Cafe

9:00- Main Street Electrical Parade

10:00- Wishes

11:00- Return to the Resort and BED

What we plan to do during our Extra Magic Hour- During our extra magic hour we will be heading to Space Mountain.  And then probably heading toward new fantasyland.  Depending on how long the line is, we may do the standby line for the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, even though we have a fast pass for it.  I’ve heard that the que is SUPER interactive and wonderful, and I would like to experience the que without the fastpass.  If the line is under 60 minutes we will probably go for it 🙂

What we’ll be doing that we’ve never done before- The seven dwarfs mine train will be a new experience because it’s brand new!  We also plan to ride the jungle cruise, dumbo the flying elephant (I know it’s shocking, but I haven’t rode this since I was very small!), Tom Sawyers island, and the Tomorrowland people mover (I rode this one in 2012, but hubby wasn’t with me on that trip!)

Whew!  Busy day!!! Tomorrow we’re heading to Epcot, MY FAVORITE PARK!!!!
