Musical Monday- “Evolution of Disney” with Todrick Hall

Oooh do I love Todrick Hall!  He’s gained his popularity as a YouTuber, and many of his videos are disney themed… some are more appropriate (family friendly) than others lol!  “Evolution of Disney” is definitely one of his family friendly works.

In watching his “Evolution of Disney” video, I definitely enjoyed the musical arrangements and quality of the performance.  One slight detail that bothered me is that not all of the music is 100% chronological order of movie/show release date (and it really is in order for the most part…) .  While this bothers me in the “evolution” sense, as a musician, I understand for arrangement purposes why some of the music is out of order.

Enjoy- Todrick Hall’s “Evolution of Disney”

Below is the list and order of the movies/shows that the music is from (pretty proud… I knew all but 2 of the songs!)

Musical Monday-Let it Go!

The song Let it Go took the world by storm (pun intended) when Frozen hit the theaters in 2013.  The song, performed by Idena Menzel (or Adele Dazeem if you’re John Travolta… hahah!), was an instant hit.  I can remember very few car rides during about a 3 month period where I didn’t hear the song.

The popularity of the song lead to many parodies, spin offs, and covers.  It took me a while before I wanted to hear the song after it’s EXTREME over play on the radio, but when I did, this was hands down my favorite!  This is Brian Hull performance of Let it Go, featuring many beloved character voices!

All good things must come to an end…

So we left home a week ago this morning and will be returning tomorrow evening around midnight.  It is true that all good things must come to an end. We’ve had an amazing adventure between Disney, Siesta Key Beach, and now Atlanta, Georgia!

Overview of Disney- We stayed at a new to us resort (Caribbean Beach Resort) and WOW, WOW, WOW!!!  It was HUGE!!!  We’ve stayed at all 3 All Star Resorts, Pop Century, and Port Orleans French Quarter, and those were just a fraction of the size of this resort (over 30,000 guest rooms!).

Our first day at Hollywood Studios we were able to experience things we had never done before, as well as things we hadn’t done in a REALLY long time!  (More on that later)

Our second day we headed to Epcot and again were able to experience new things!  Frozen forever after, Soarin around the World, meeting Joy and Sadness, and new (to us) dining experiences!

Our final day we checked out and headed to Magic Kingdom.  Rather than trying anything new we enjoyed our old favorites!  Started at the park opening at 9am and stayed until about 2 pm before renting a car and heading to Siesta Key Beach!

We got to Siesta Key in the early evening and settled into “Hibiscus Suites.”  This hotel was such a great location!!!  It was about a 5 minute drive to Siesta Key Public Beach, right down the road from Publix (Florida supermarket chain), and right across the street from Siesta Key Water Sports!

We of course enjoyed the beach, parasailing, and eating LOTS of seafood!!!

Wednesday morning we drove from Siesta Key to Atlanta, Georgia.  We got settled into the Westin Hotel on Peachtree and headed to dinner at Pitty Pat’s Porch.  We LOVE Pitty Pat’s!!!   We visited this restaurant about 6 years ago and had the most amazing ribs.  We were afraid that we had over-hyped the taste in the paste 6 years, but we didn’t!!!  They were so so so good!  If you’re ever in the Atlanta area, I highly recommend checking it out!

Today is our first and only full day here in Atlanta, so we spent a good chunk of time at the Georgia Aquarium.  It is expensive to get in ($40 for adults) but WOW, it’s absolutely incredible!  We spent about 2 hours there in the morning, left and had lunch, and then came back for another hour and a half in the afternoon.  There is so much to do and see at the Aquarium, and the Dolphin Celebration show was just excellent!  This evening we are having dinner at the Sun Dial restaurant (the top 3 floors at the Westin… and it revolves!) and then heading to ride the Atlanta Skyview.

Tomorrow we will be checking out the World of Coca-Cola and some other sites before heading to airport to fly home.

It’s been an amazing trip thus far, but I am looking forward to coming home sweet home!

Maelstrom being replaced with a Frozen Attraction

Disclaimer… much of what I’m going to state in today’s blogpost is my personal opinion.  Please bear in mind that this is my blog and my place to share my knowledge of Disney, also I get to share my opinion.  It will not be often that I share my opinion, but today is one of those days.

Fact– The Maelstrom Ride in Norway at the World Showcase is being replaced with “Frozen” themed attraction.

Fact- The last day that the Maelstrom ride will be in operation is October 5th, 2014

Fact- The new Frozen attraction is expected to be opened early in 2016 (according to the Disney Park Blog)

Opinion- I believe that when Epcot created the world showcase that the intention was to “showcase” different cultures from around the world.  Disney did an amazing job at keeping these countries authentic as well.  The materials used to build the pavilions were brought in from that country.  The craftsmen who built the pavilions were skilled laborers from that particular country.  The items sold in the countries are imported, and even the cast members who work in the countries are natives of that country.

With all of that being said, I wish that Disney would have stayed true to keeping the world showcase “pure.”  I love walking through the world showcase and being transported to a different country.  I believe that by adding the Disney movie theming in the World Showcase that they’re missing the point.  Maelstrom may be a little bit outdated as a ride, and for heaven’s sake we all know that “The Spirit of Norway” film at the end of the attraction was outdated.  I will agree that the ride and film could have used some updates, BUT I think that making it a Frozen attraction is completely out of line what the World Showcase stands for.

On our most recent trip this summer there were hints of Frozen in the gift shop and the “Old Stave Church,” and to me that was tolerable. I didn’t mind that there was merchandise, and I can understand Disney giving the kids something in the country that their favorite movie is set in.  But to me I almost dread going to the Norway Pavilion in 2016.  I now know that there will be a ridiculous line to meet Anna and Elsa, and I know that the ride isn’t going to even remotely be about the history and culture of Norway, but about another Disney movie.  Disney was thinking about the $$$ not the preservation of one of the most brilliant sections of their parks.

I won’t be offended if you disagree with me, as long as you’re not offended by my opinion 🙂
