Musical Monday- “Try Everything” Cover by Home Free

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love the 2016 Disney Animated Movie “Zootopia.”  I thought that it had a great message about diversity, and about following your dreams.  In addition to the movie being great, I loved the MUSIC!  The character “Gazelle” is a pop star (and rights activist) in the animal world.  Her character was voiced by Shakira, and the big song from the movie was called “Try Everything.”  I love the rhythm, and the catchy melody for the song, as well as the animation that accompany’s it at the end of the movie.

Today’s Musical Monday clip is by a country A Capella group called Home Free.  Home Free got their start on NBC’s show “The Sing Off.”  They were the winners of the show’s fourth season, and have gained great success with their original songs and covers.  Here is their cover of Shakira’s “Try Everything”

Musical Monday- Disney Love Medley

Okay, most of you out in “Cyberland” do not know me personally, so let me tell you a little bit about myself.

First of all, I LOVE DISNEY (… like duh, I have a blog called Confessions of a Mouskaholic, so I guess that was a given…)  It might be more than loving Disney, in fact, some might call it obsession.

Next, I am a full time music teacher in Ohio.  I teach 7th through 12th grade choir and general music in a suburban school district.  I went to Kent State University (Go Golden Flashes!) for instrumental music education, but my certification is K-12 any music.  My dream was to be a band director, but here I am 10 years into my teaching career and I’ve taught choir for 7 of them and love it.  While that it something I never thought I’d say 15 years ago, here I stand teaching choir and really truly loving it.

Third, I am passionate about music, especially A Capella music.  I think that those who can sing A Capella and do it well are so so talented.  Just my opinion here, but A Capella musicians and groups are FAR more talented than those who can sing and dance to an auto-tuned track.  These groups display true talent and musicianship and don’t rely on gimmicks to sound amazing.  It’s raw talent.

Lastly, and this is important for today’s post in particular, I LOVE the group Pentatonix.  They are my favorite A Capella group.  They got their start on NBC’s show “The Sing Off” where they won season three.  They’ve become increasingly popular especially with their Christmas albums.  To me they’re fantastic all year round and I love seeing what they have done and where they’re going.  (I was fortunate enough to see them perform live in my home town in September 2015 and WOW what a great show!!!)

So without further ado, I would like to share today’s Musical Monday selection.   This is the Disney Love Medley, featuring Kirstin Maldonado (from Pentatonix) & Jeremy Michael Lewis as the lead singers and the group Voctave singing the BEAUTIFUL soaring harmony!  If you’re not convinced of how amazing this is (which you should be after about 5 seconds) wait for the last two chords… WOW is all I can say!

(P.S.- If you didn’t already think this was beautiful and adorable, Kirsten and Jeremy are dating!!! How cute!)

(P.S.S.- This is a completely separate group, but if you think they’re awesome be sure to check out the Voices of Liberty at the American Pavilion at Epcot.  Many of the members of Voctave are also in Voices of Liberty at Epcot!)
