Register Today for the RunDisney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend

Today (March 13, 2018) is the day to register for the 2018 Wine and Dine Half Marathon at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.  Registration opens at noon EST.

Disney invites you to “Be our Guest” during the weekend of November 1st- 4th, 2018, with races for all levels of fitness!  The Health and Fitness Expo will be held November 1st- 3rd at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.  There you’ll be able to pick up your packet, listen to guest speakers, and shop from top vendors in the running industry!  The races that weekend kick off on Friday, November 2nd with the “Disney Fall Feast 5k.”  The weekend continues on Saturday, November 3rd with the “Disney Wine & Dine 10k.”  The weekend culminates on Sunday, November 4th with the main course (yes I just inserted my own food humor here!) the “Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon.”  If you’re feeling particularly gung-ho be sure to register for the “Disney Two-Course Challenge.”  In this special event you will be registered for both the 10k on Saturday and the 1/2 Marathon on Sunday (19.3 miles in 2 days), and what would Disney races be without some amazing BLING!

If you’re new to RunDisney, you should know that races fill up quickly, and I speculate that this year’s races will fill up much quicker than usually with the decision to put Disneyland races on hiatus this year (there’s a lot of construction going on at Disneyland right now).  So if you’re thinking about registering take the plunge and go for it!  Having run my fair share of Run Disney Events, it promises to be memorable!

Today is the day to register for RunDisney’s Wine and Dine Half Marathon!  The race weekend starts with the Fall Feast 5k on Friday November 3rd, continues with the Wine and Dine 10k on Saturday November 4th, and concludes with the Wine and Dine Half marathon on Sunday November 5th.

If you participate in both the 10k on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday and run all 19.3 miles you’ll complete the “Two Course Challenge” and earn a third medal for doing both races.

These races are a bit pricey, but there is nothing like a Disney race as far as entertainment and quality.  The medals are exceptionally beautiful, and everyone is treated like a world class runner.

California Here I Come- Day 1in review

Alright, after a long day at work for both my husband and myself we boarded a plan in Ohio and headed to Los Angeles for RunDisney’s Avenger’s Half Marathon Weekend!!!

The first thing that I learned on this trip is that flying after work is exhausting, especially when it is a 7 + hours in the air kind of trip. When I originally planned the trip in my mind it was going to be WAY better to fly out on a Thursday after work so that we could hit the race expo AND enjoy more park time on Friday.  I still think this was the right choice, but eeesh with the 3 hour time difference and waking up at my normal Ohio time, I’m pooped and the day hasn’t even begun.

All flights went smoothly AND we got a fun bonus… as we were eating our dinner waiting for our first flight, a man asked if anyone was flying southwest (which we were) and handed me 4 drink vouchers to use on the plane!!!  SCORE!  What a nice way to start the trip and take the edge off on a long trip!

IMG_8430

We got into LAX at 11:20pm California time, so 2:20am Ohio time… LONG day!!!  After getting our bags we were ready to hit the road by 11:45 or so.  When I booked our trip I had purchased round trip transport on the Disneyland Express.  Much to my dismay when our travel documents arrived I realized that our flight was coming in far to late to use this bus service and that it was non-refundable.  Lesson learned.  There are other shuttle services that run 24 hours, but after having so much fun and success with Uber on or Disney World trip we decided well in advance that we would just take Uber to our hotel in Anaheim.

I won’t call using Uber for our hotel ride a mistake per say, BUT at midnight there were absolutely no Uber X drivers at LAX (I don’t know if that was the time of day or if that is standard practice for Uber out here), so we had to take “Uber Select” which is considerably more expensive.  The reason that I won’t call it a mistake, is that after 7+ hours on a plan with VERY little leg room, riding in the back seat of a BMV 7 series with leather interior and dual climate control was a DREAM!!!  But for a nearly 40 minute car ride from LAX to anaheim it was WAY more expensive than I care to admit that I paid for a car ride.

We got checked into the beautiful Best Western Stovall’s Inn around 12:30 pm and hit the hay!  I am excited for Day 2 of our adventure because that’s where the fun is!!!  Day 2 will be in the parks, race expo at the Disneyland Hotel, (hopefully a nap), hanging out with friends that live out here, and a drink at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar!!!  Have a great Friday mouskaholics

30 Day Disney Challenge- Day 9 “Favorite Character to Meet

Confessions of a Mouskaholic's 30 Day Disney Challenge

Confessions of a Mouskaholic’s 30 Day Disney Challenge

Alright, Day 9,  and my favorite Disney Character to Meet.  I am going to break this one into two categories- Animated Characters, and Face Characters (Just because interacting with the two are quite different.)

So first, my favorite animated character to meet is Tigger!  He has been my favorite since I was little!  He’s so fun to meet (I’ve met him both at Crystal Palace, and in the park).  I love him so much that for my first Marathon ever (at Disney of course) I dressed up at Tigger!  I was so proud to get a picture with him and my marathon medal the following day! (And our course I can’t find the picture… MEH!!!!)

Me with Tigger at the Crystal Palace (Day before my 2nd Disney marathon!)

Me dressed as Tigger for my first Disney Marathon!

So in the other category, “Face Characters”-  it is definitely Mary Poppins!  She is so fun to interact with!  I’ve met her at both the Magic Kingdom (by the carousel) and at Epcot (in the United Kingdom).  During my last trip I asked her if I could take a “selfie” with her, and she didn’t miss a beat!  Her response was “Is that like a self portrait?  I have never heard of a selfie.”  I love the movie, and I love Mary Poppins (never just Mary)

Wine and Dine 1/2 Marathon Start Line

Wine and Dine 1/2 Marathon Start Line

While I myself have run quite a few of RunDisney’s events, I have never run the Wine and Dine Half Marathon!  My friend Teresa has run this race, so here are some questions that I asked her and her responses-

Q) This is Disney’s only night time 1/2 marathon- are there as many characters out as there are during the morning 1/2?

A) “Yes! Mickey and Minnie are at the finish line dressed in their “chef” clothing. There is some sort of entertainment or character throughout the race just like in the morning races. Last year most of them were still out during the pouring rain, they just positioned them under cover.”

Q) What is your favorite part of the W&D half?

A) “Wine & Dine has a special place in my heart. It was the very first half marathon I ever ran, and I went back last year for the 5th anniversary to celebrate MY 4 years of running longer races. I am not a morning runner, so having the 10pm start is much easier for me. The wait for the start doesn’t seem as long as it does at 4am. **My favorite part is getting to Hollywood Studios and the Osborne Family Lights. When I turn that corner, I stop in my tracks (off to one side per runner etiquette, of course… :-))”

Q) Other than it being a night race, are there any other major differences?

A) “There seems to be more space than the other races. I think there is a smaller number of participants allowed – so not as many bottleneck areas. They also have a limited number of host resorts – so be sure to know ahead of time for booking hotel rooms.”

“Then there is the party after the race until 4am? (I think that’s when it ends.) I was so exhausted after both races that I just wanted to go back to my room, get a shower and go to bed.”

“Plus, you get to see 3 parks instead of the usual 2 parks for morning 1/2 marathon races. It is nice to have a different route to see.”

Q) Why would you recommend this 1/2 marathon

A)  “I would recommend this race because it is a night race. The parks are lit up and everything sparkles. There is just as much Disney Magic as any other race – and if you can stay up until 4am, you can also enjoy Epcot included in the race fee.

I also recommend the 5k that morning – Mickey’s Jingle Jungle. It is all at Animal Kingdom and has a Christmas theme. They pump out the snow!!!”
