Register Today for the RunDisney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend

Today (March 13, 2018) is the day to register for the 2018 Wine and Dine Half Marathon at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.  Registration opens at noon EST.

Disney invites you to “Be our Guest” during the weekend of November 1st- 4th, 2018, with races for all levels of fitness!  The Health and Fitness Expo will be held November 1st- 3rd at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.  There you’ll be able to pick up your packet, listen to guest speakers, and shop from top vendors in the running industry!  The races that weekend kick off on Friday, November 2nd with the “Disney Fall Feast 5k.”  The weekend continues on Saturday, November 3rd with the “Disney Wine & Dine 10k.”  The weekend culminates on Sunday, November 4th with the main course (yes I just inserted my own food humor here!) the “Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon.”  If you’re feeling particularly gung-ho be sure to register for the “Disney Two-Course Challenge.”  In this special event you will be registered for both the 10k on Saturday and the 1/2 Marathon on Sunday (19.3 miles in 2 days), and what would Disney races be without some amazing BLING!

If you’re new to RunDisney, you should know that races fill up quickly, and I speculate that this year’s races will fill up much quicker than usually with the decision to put Disneyland races on hiatus this year (there’s a lot of construction going on at Disneyland right now).  So if you’re thinking about registering take the plunge and go for it!  Having run my fair share of Run Disney Events, it promises to be memorable!

Today is the day to register for RunDisney’s Wine and Dine Half Marathon!  The race weekend starts with the Fall Feast 5k on Friday November 3rd, continues with the Wine and Dine 10k on Saturday November 4th, and concludes with the Wine and Dine Half marathon on Sunday November 5th.

If you participate in both the 10k on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday and run all 19.3 miles you’ll complete the “Two Course Challenge” and earn a third medal for doing both races.

These races are a bit pricey, but there is nothing like a Disney race as far as entertainment and quality.  The medals are exceptionally beautiful, and everyone is treated like a world class runner.

Wine and Dine 1/2 Marathon Start Line

Wine and Dine 1/2 Marathon Start Line

While I myself have run quite a few of RunDisney’s events, I have never run the Wine and Dine Half Marathon!  My friend Teresa has run this race, so here are some questions that I asked her and her responses-

Q) This is Disney’s only night time 1/2 marathon- are there as many characters out as there are during the morning 1/2?

A) “Yes! Mickey and Minnie are at the finish line dressed in their “chef” clothing. There is some sort of entertainment or character throughout the race just like in the morning races. Last year most of them were still out during the pouring rain, they just positioned them under cover.”

Q) What is your favorite part of the W&D half?

A) “Wine & Dine has a special place in my heart. It was the very first half marathon I ever ran, and I went back last year for the 5th anniversary to celebrate MY 4 years of running longer races. I am not a morning runner, so having the 10pm start is much easier for me. The wait for the start doesn’t seem as long as it does at 4am. **My favorite part is getting to Hollywood Studios and the Osborne Family Lights. When I turn that corner, I stop in my tracks (off to one side per runner etiquette, of course… :-))”

Q) Other than it being a night race, are there any other major differences?

A) “There seems to be more space than the other races. I think there is a smaller number of participants allowed – so not as many bottleneck areas. They also have a limited number of host resorts – so be sure to know ahead of time for booking hotel rooms.”

“Then there is the party after the race until 4am? (I think that’s when it ends.) I was so exhausted after both races that I just wanted to go back to my room, get a shower and go to bed.”

“Plus, you get to see 3 parks instead of the usual 2 parks for morning 1/2 marathon races. It is nice to have a different route to see.”

Q) Why would you recommend this 1/2 marathon

A)  “I would recommend this race because it is a night race. The parks are lit up and everything sparkles. There is just as much Disney Magic as any other race – and if you can stay up until 4am, you can also enjoy Epcot included in the race fee.

I also recommend the 5k that morning – Mickey’s Jingle Jungle. It is all at Animal Kingdom and has a Christmas theme. They pump out the snow!!!”

Tumble Monkeys and Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Update

If you’re a regular here at Mouskaholic.com you know that yesterday I posted about RunDisney’s- Disneyland 1/2 marathon registration opening at noon on February 10th.  Within 35 minutes the Dumbo Double Dare (DDD) was sold out!  How crazy is that?  If you’re still interested in running at Disneyland, do not dismay!  The 1/2 marathon is 80% full!  If you’re interested in running that you’ll want to jump on the band wagon quickly!

DIsneyland 1/2 marathon is 80% sold out!

DIsneyland 1/2 marathon is 80% sold out!

Alright, enough about running and RunDisney, here is a completely different form of athleticism at Disney.  This is in the form of performances, not guests having to do anything physical 🙂  Today I’d like to share with you a video from the Disney Parks Blog about the “tumble monkeys”!  If you’ve ever been to the Animal Kingdom, you know that “The Festival of the Lion King” is one of their most popular shows!  It’s full of energy, excitement and music.  This spectacular is great for all ages!  I took my Godson to see it when he was 18 months old and he LOVED the monkeys!  As and adult I even love the show and make it a point to see it every time I visit the Animal Kingdom!  It’s hard not to leave the show full of energy and whistling Hakuna Matata!  Enjoy this video featuring the “tumble monkeys”

Tuesday’s Tip- Register for the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Today!

Good Morning Mouskaholics!

Today registration for the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon- “The Happiest Race on Earth” opens today at 12pm EST.

101_0228

101_0265

I speak from personal experience when I say this is an amazing race!  I ran the race in 2012 as part of the Coast to Coast challenge, and it was not only my first trip to Disneyland, but also my first time in California!  If you’ve never been to Disneyland, it is such a neat experience to walk where Walt Disney walked 🙂

101_0220 101_0229

The Disneyland race is different from the Disney World races in that in Disneyland you only spend about 3 miles actually on Disney property, and the rest of the race is through the city of Anaheim.  Disney World races are entirely on Disney property because of the vast amounts of land owned in Florida.

With that being said there are opportunities for some neat non-Disney experiences in the Disneyland race, like running through the Anaheim Angels Stadium!

101_0252 101_0253

In addition to the Disneyland 1/2 marathon, you can also register for the Disneyland 10k, or 5k.  If you’re up for an even bigger challenge register for the Dumbo Double Dare where you run the 10k on Saturday and the 1/2 Marathon on Sunday.

The Disneyland 1/2 Marathon weekend will kick off on Friday September 4th with the 5k, and continue on Saturday with the 10k and Sunday with the 1/2 marathon.  This is all held on Labor Day weekend which can make getting off work a little less complicated for these events!  To register visit http://www.rundisney.com around noon today!
