Today’s Musical Monday goes all the way back to 1997 with the movie Hercules. I’ve always been a fan of the this classic Disney film. In fact, it comes in as #5 on My Top 10 Disney Animated Films list. As I mention in that previous blog post, Hercules has made the top 10 list for 2 reasons; 1) my love of greek mythology, and 2) for the music!!!! My absolute favorite song from the movie (and quite possibly one of my favorite Disney songs ever) is “Go the Distance.” This stunning arrangement features two pianos and the talents of Shawn Hook and Kurt Hugo Schneider. Enjoy this week’s Musical Monday!

I’ll admit, I was late to the Moana obsession. I didn’t watch the movie until it was out on DVD, but when I watched it I absolutely adored it! Not only is the music exceptional, some of it was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, (composer of the Tony Award Winning musical- Hamilton) who I am completely enamored with. In all honesty, I listened to the soundtrack for about 2 weeks straight because I enjoyed it so much! While there are many catchy tunes from the movie (You’re Welcome and Shiny are the two that stick out in my mind) the song most central to the story of Moana’s journey is “How Far I’ll Go.” So for today’s Musical Monday I present Nick Pitera’s cover of the song.

Today’s “Musical Monday” comes from the Pixar movie Coco. I saw this movie over Christmas break with my two Godsons and I was absolutely hooked! Coco is definitely one of my new favorites! Of course the storyline and music were fantastic, but to me the music was absolutely stirring! I stumbled across this acapella cover of the movie’s central song- “Remember Me” and fell in love with it! Enjoy

Okay, I ran across this little gem back in June and have been saving it for a Monday in October!
Jon Cozart is a YouTuber, gaining fame from his video “After Ever After” (a Disney parody) on his YouTube channel “Paint.” For this video he combined his already stunning vocal talents with the seasoned vocal talents of Voctave! For this Halloween mashup they combined “Grim Grinning Ghosts” (written by the Buddy Baker) from the Haunted Mansion and “This is Halloween” (written by Danny Elfman) from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Enjoy this fabulous mash up from some of my all time favorite YouTubers 🙂

If you’ve been following my blog for any length of time (regardless of my frequent hiatuses), you’ll know that when I post a “Musical Monday” that I rarely post a plain video. I like to find ones out there are unique and by YouTubers with true talent. Today I’d like to highlight an awesome video of a Star Wars Medley that is played in an uncommon way… On PVC pipes. To me this is YouTube meets Blue Man Group, meets Star Wars.
If you’re interested, check out his other videos, he really is talented 🙂

Okay, the long awaited Live action version of Beauty and the Beast FINALLY hit the theaters this weekend (and broke some records doing so…largest opening for a PG rated movie ever)! I haven’t seen it YET, but am definitely going soon. Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favorite Disney movies from you childhood (in fact it made #7 on my top ten favorite animated Disney movie list)
So today’s Musical Monday shall honor the original movie. In the movie, Mrs. Potts (voiced by Dame Angela Lansbury) sings the title track. So below is the scene from the movie with Mrs. Potts performing the song.
Disney songs being recorded by pop artists is almost a “tale as old as time.” The song “Beauty and the Beast” was recorded by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson for the radio and the end credits of the movie. I’m sure that this song was played on the radio and annoyed my parents much like “Let it Go” annoyed me, but it is a classic, and one of my all time favorite Disney songs!

Oooh do I love Todrick Hall! He’s gained his popularity as a YouTuber, and many of his videos are disney themed… some are more appropriate (family friendly) than others lol! “Evolution of Disney” is definitely one of his family friendly works.
In watching his “Evolution of Disney” video, I definitely enjoyed the musical arrangements and quality of the performance. One slight detail that bothered me is that not all of the music is 100% chronological order of movie/show release date (and it really is in order for the most part…) . While this bothers me in the “evolution” sense, as a musician, I understand for arrangement purposes why some of the music is out of order.
Enjoy- Todrick Hall’s “Evolution of Disney”
