Happy National Pizza Day- Fun Fact Friday

Did you know that every hour at Disney world, they are cranking out 1200 pizzas an hour… at several locations!?!?  That’s a lot of dough!  The quick service restaurants use a machine called the “pizzamatic” and can be found at Pizzerizzo (Hollywood Studios) and Pizzafari (Animal Kingdom).

Check out this video of the pizzamatic in action (From the show Unwrapped on the Food Network)-

If pizza is one of your favorites no worries, you can find TONS of places to get a slice of your favorite pie at Walt Disney World!

Check out Trattoria Al Forno at Disney’s Boardwalk, Pinocchio Village Haus at Magic Kingdom, Pizzafari at Animal Kingdom, Any of the Wolfgang Puck restaurants at Disney Springs, Pizzerizzo at Hollywood Studios, Catalina Eddie’s at Hollywood Studios, Tony’s Town Square at Magic Kingdom, Splitsville at Disney Springs, Mama Melrose’s at Hollywood studios, and of course- my all time favorite- Via Napoli at Epcot!

Our pizza from Via Napoli!!!!!

If none of these options sound like the type of pizza you’re in luck.  Within a reasonable drive from Disney World Property you can hit up Giordano’s Pizza (THEY ALSO DELIVER TO DISNEY RESORT HOTELS)!  They’re a Chicago based pizza chain with STUFFED pizza!  It’s one of our all time favorite pizza places.  They just added a location 2 hours south of our home and we totally drove 2 hours for pizza.  If you are a pizza lover it’s definitely worth checking out!

Fun Fact Monday?- Super Bowl, “I’m Going to Disney World!”

I originally shared this fact as a “Fun Fact Friday” a back in 2015, but I think it’s a cool tidbit to reshare 🙂

You’ve all heard it

Question- ” (insert name), you just won the Super Bowl, What are you going to do next?”

Answer- “I’m going to Disney World”

Ever wonder where that started???  The first football player to answer that question was Phil Simms in 1987.  Simms played for the New York Giants, and was the 1987 Super Bowl MVP.

For doing the commercial spot Simms was paid $50,000 and Disney foot the bill for his family and him to travel to their parks.

This year is the 31st year, and congrats to Nick Foles from the Philadelphia Eagles on being the Super Bowl MVP!

Musical Monday- Go the Distance

Today’s Musical Monday goes all the way back to 1997 with the movie Hercules.  I’ve always been a fan of the this classic Disney film.  In fact, it comes in as #5 on My Top 10 Disney Animated Films list.  As I mention in that previous blog post, Hercules has made the top 10 list for 2 reasons; 1) my love of greek mythology, and 2) for the music!!!! My absolute favorite song from the movie (and quite possibly one of my favorite Disney songs ever) is “Go the Distance.”  This stunning arrangement features two pianos and the talents of Shawn Hook and Kurt Hugo Schneider.  Enjoy this week’s Musical Monday!

On this day in 1938 the classic Disney film Snow White hit the big screens across America.  It premiered in Hollywood with much success in December of 1937 at the Carthay Circle Theater.  Here are some fun facts you may not know about the film-

  • This was the first full length animated feature in English and Technicolor

  • The film grossed $8 million which was unheard of during the great depression and was the highest grossing film at that time.
    • It held the title of highest grossing film for a year until Gone with the Wind was released.
  • The original film budget was $250,000.  It ended up costing $1.5 million and Walt Disney had to mortgage his home to fund the film’s production.
  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first film to ever release a motion picture soundtrack
    • In fact the composers (Frank Churchill and Larry Morey) wrote 25 songs for the film, with 7 making the final cut into the movie

  • During production there were live animals in the studio for the animators to use as reference.

  • Lucille La Verne voiced the Evil Queen and the witch.  To achieve the unique voice of the witch she removed her front dentures.
  • Walt Disney was awarded an honorary Academy Award for the film.  The Academy discussed nominating it for Best Picture, but opted to award a special Oscar for the film’s unique contribution to film history.  The award has one large traditional oscar, and then 7 smaller oscars on a staircase to represent all of the title characters.
