Walt Disney had a childhood love of trains, and it goes all the way back to his childhood in Marceline.  As a child he would watch his Uncle Mike who was a train conductor.  As an adult his love of trains continued.  When he and his wife Lillian purchased their home in Holmby Hills, California, Walt began work on the “Carolwood Pacific Railroad.”  This backyard train was a 1/8 scale train that ran through their sprawling backyard.

Walt was able to further live out his childhood dreams by driving the steam locomotive to the Main Street Station at Disneyland on opening day.
