Fun Fact Friday- Super Bowl, “I’m Going to Disney World”

You’ve all heard it

Question- ” (insert name), you just won the Super Bowl, What are you going to do next?”

Answer- “I’m going to Disney World”

Ever wonder where that started???  The first football player to answer that question was Phil Simms in 1987.  Simms played for the New York Giants, and was the 1987 Super Bowl MVP.

For doing the commercial spot Simms was paid $50,000 and Disney foot the bill for his family and him to travel to their parks.

This year will be the 28th year, but who will be the MVP?  I guess we will have to wait until Sunday to find out!

Words of Walt- Music

As much as I love Disney and dream of one day working for the mouse, I am currently a music teacher.  I am passionate about music, and I enjoy this quote from Walt because it shows the role that music played in the early days of Disney films.

“Throughout our career in motion pictures, classical music has played a very important part.  Early in the beginning we created a cartoon series called Silly Symphonies… simple short subjects that relied heavily on the works of classical composers.  The popularity to the Silly Symphonies led us to undertake a major effort, Fantasia, which featured the music of Bach, Dukas, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Mussorgsky, Beethoven, and Schubert.”

Words of Walt- Family

It’s Thursday again which means more “Words of Walt.”  I so enjoy hearing his quotes and learning about him!  He created such a magical place, and had amazing sense of adventure and wasn’t afraid to take risks.  At the same time he knew the importance of family.

“We try it in everything we do here, you know… for the family.  We don’t actually make films for children.  But we make films that children can enjoy along with their parents.”

Picking a Pearl

Well I’m back in cold dreary Ohio, but I definitely had an AMAZING trip to Disney this past weekend!  The 1/2 marathon was awesome, spending time with my mom and my aunt was awesome, and seeing John Stamos at Epcot was DEFINITELY AWESOME!

I will do a full report tomorrow on the highlights and overview of our trip, however today I wanted to share a really fun experience that I’ve always wanted to try.  While at Epcot, in the world showcase, we visited Japan.  In the Mitsukoshi gift shop there is an area where you can pick a pearl from an oyster.  There are two tanks of water where the oysters are kept, and you can pick from the many oysters.  They will open it for you and you keep the pearl inside.  The price is $17 after tax and you have no idea what type of pearl you will get.  Once they open the pearl you’ll see the size and color.  You can then just keep the pearl, or they have different jewelry settings.  I chose to have my pearl set in a ring.

I had my mom video the experience as it was happening so you can view my “Picking a Pearl” experience here-

I definitely recommend this if you’re looking for a unique experience!

Words of Walt- The Park

Today is a magical day for me, because I’m leaving for Disney after work today!!!  This coming weekend I will be running the Disney World 1/2 marathon!  Today’s “Words of Walt” quote is from the opening day at Disneyland and articulates BEAUTIFULLY why I love Disney, and why if I’m going to run 13.1 miles I choose to do it at Disney!

“To all who come to this happy place: Welcome.  Disneyland is your land.  Here, age relives fond memories of the past… and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future.  Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America… with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.”

Fun Fact Friday- Monster’s Inc

Today’s fun fact does not come from the Disney Parks, but rather from the Disney film Monster’s Inc.

Fun Fact- Boo’s real name is Mary.  We know that Boo’s name is Mary because she shows Sully a drawing she did in crayon and her name is at the top of the page.  The animators gave her the name Mary after the young girl, Mary Gibbs, who did the voice of Boo.

Boo's real name is Mary.

Boo’s real name is Mary.

Words of Walt- Children and Parents

Happy New Year Mouskaholics!

It’s Thursday which means it’s time for Words of Walt-

“I didn’t treat my youngsters like frail flowers, and I think no parent should.  Children are people, and they should have to reach to learn about things, to understand things, just as adults have to reach if they want to grow in mental stature.  Life is composed of lights and shadows, and we would be untruthful, insincere, and saccharine if we tried to pretend there were no shadows.  Most things are good, and they are the strongest things, but there are evil things, too, and you could do a child no favor by trying to shield it from reality.  The important thing is to teach a child that good can always triumph over evil, and that is what our pictures do.”
